Eight States
of the World
These eight landscape paintings are about my then-teenage son. They are meant to be read together, literally as sections of a whole and figuratively as archival fragments of the larger physical world. They represent eight of the infinite perspectives possible—both interior (personal) and exterior (communal)—in a person’s experience of what lies outside the self. That experience, in turn, is affected by the shifts in the human spirit that determine what is perceived.
