After the Fall
(ghost trees)

This series of paintings began in 2011 with large-scale (4 x 6 feet) oil paint and pencil drawings on Arches paper. I moved to canvas with the intention of keeping the fresh line quality and multi-dimensional approach to space so easily accessed through drawing, using imagery that alludes to the veiled realities at the center of any persons life. In the process of connecting personal experience to the universal picture swirling around us, trees emerged as a metaphor for humanity’s individual and collective efforts to reach beyond what is physically apparent. Many images came and went as the paintings slipped in and out of balance; editing was as large a part of the process as the development of color and form.
